Having been a Denfeld grad, I joined a sorority so that I could be more a part of campus life. I received a great education, made good friends, and had lots of fun! I look forward to renewing some of the friendships I made at UMD at the 60's Reunion!!

The Duluth Maritime Festival coincides with the Decade of the 60's Reunion. also beginning Thursday July 31. This will be a special experience for Reunion goers . The Maritime festival is a premier event. Our Waterfront reunion hotel , The Inn on Superior, will be a special place to be particularly Thursday at our rooftop Cocktail reception. We will have the best seat in the house as we enjoy the thrill of the renowned tall ships sailing together into the Harbor and underneath the Aerial Bridge.

The Niagara , The Schooner Madeline and the Pride of Baltimore 11 will dock at the DECC. The Niagara and the Pride of Baltimore11 are twin- masted replicas of clipper ships of the War of 1812. The Madeline is modeled after an 1840's freighter . All three ships are twin - masted with multiple sails.Tour's will be available Aug1,2 and 3. The Maritime festival will provide a canal park setting of Entertainment, food, crafts and fun .

Looking forward to seeing everyone

I graduated from UMD in 1968 after perhaps the 4 most memorable years of my life. The education provided me with a foundation to go on for 38 years in a career, and the friendships have been priceless. I am looking forward to the Reunion and seeing friends who I haven't seen for all too long! I am hopeful that we have a great turnout! See you there!!

We have added an additional 20 rooms at the Sheraton Hotel for the Reunion weekend. This is the newest hotel in town and it is lovely.

At our official reunion hotel, The Inn on Lake Superior, we have 100 rooms reserved.

We also have 30 rooms at UMD set aside.

Duluth will be full this weekend, especailly now that they announced the arrival of the Tall Ships.

So be sure to book early. The blog has lots of details.

While I didn't always appreciate the education I received before graduation from UMD, I have come to marvel that I have been able to draw on it continuously over the following decades for a successful science career. I sometimes even wonder where I would be had I actually gone to all my classes.

In addition to the academics, UMD provided me with an opportunity to interact with some great people with whom I have maintained lifelong contact. Even though our lives have taken us in many directions, when we get together we always talk about the insane things we did at UMD while in pursuit of education and maturity.

The 1960's was a crazy decade. It brought unparalleled changes to our country and our lives. I feel very fortunate to have experienced that period while attending UMD. It still seems like yesterday.

I look forward to the UMD 60s reunion and hope to see many of the people who shared that memorable period with me.

The Grateful Dean, straight from the 60s (heh heh) is preparing a brief presentation design to trigger memories of the times in the nation and at UMD. I intend to thank those who sprung from the 60s and went on to make contributions for 4 decades.
